About Gymnastics

Our gymnastics classes introduce gymnasts to a wide range of movements and skills using different pieces of gymnastics equipment.

Classes are suitable for complete beginners as well as gymnasts with previous experience, with activities adapted to suit their ability.

Learning and Progression

Our gymnastics classes are group led, with gymnasts learning and practising skills together. Most gymnasts progress through the programme at a similar pace, although coaches adapt activities and provide additional support to accommodate different abilities and learning speeds.

Developing Gymnastics Skills

Gymnasts develop strength, flexibility, balance and coordination through floor work and apparatus activities, including beam, bars and vault.

Beginners learn fundamental movements such as rolls, balances, jumps and controlled landings, progressing to skills including handstands, cartwheels and more complex movements as their abilities develop.

Rise Gymnastics

We follow Rise Gymnastics, the British Gymnastics recreational development programme, alongside our own club skill levels.

Rise is divided into three phases:

  • Discover: Introduces basic movement skills, balance and coordination.
  • Explore: Develops gymnastics techniques across different activities and apparatus.
  • Excel: Builds on existing skills with more advanced movements and combinations.

Gymnasts work towards suitable awards during their regular classes, with certificates and medals available to purchase when an award is completed.

Competitions and Further Development

Gymnasts can continue developing their skills through recreational classes without taking part in competitions.

For those interested in competing, we offer an invitation only Club Development programme, providing additional training and preparation for club and local competitions.

Coaches invite gymnasts based on their ability and progress. Further information is available on our Squad & Competitions page below.
