Frequently Asked Questions

Classes and joining

What ages do you teach?

Our children’s classes start from approximately age three. We also run adult classes. The most suitable class depends on the gymnast’s age, experience and current availability.

How do I join a class?

Please complete our waiting-list form. Our administration team will contact you to confirm whether a suitable class space is available and arrange a trial. A place must be confirmed by the administration team before you can join; we do not offer direct online class booking.

What registrations are required?

Every gymnast must be enrolled on our Class Manager system and hold the appropriate British Gymnastics membership. Class Manager is used for club registration and term invoicing. British Gymnastics membership is completed separately and provides the required membership and insurance cover.

How can I access Class Manager?

You can use the Class Manager app for Android, download the Class Manager app for iPhone or iPad, or sign in through the Heights Class Manager website.

Do you offer trial sessions?

Yes. After you join the waiting list, our administration team will confirm whether a suitable space is available and arrange a trial. Trials are charged at the normal session rate and must be agreed with the club in advance.

How does a gymnast move to another class?

Coaches monitor progress and will speak to parents or carers when they think a different class or progression route would be suitable.

Fees and attendance

How are class fees paid?

Ongoing class fees are invoiced for the term through Class Manager. They can be paid online by debit card or in advance by bank transfer. Trial sessions are charged at the normal session rate.

Do you offer a sibling discount?

No. Heights Club does not currently offer sibling discounts.

What happens if we miss a class?

Term fees include gymnast absences. We do not offer refunds or make-up sessions when a gymnast misses a class.

What happens if Heights cancels a class?

If Heights Club cancels a class, we may arrange a make-up session. If a make-up session is not arranged, the affected class will be credited.

Do classes follow school terms?

Our regular timetable broadly follows school terms and runs from Tuesday to Saturday, so classes are not normally affected by bank holidays. Venue closures may require a class to be cancelled; we may arrange a make-up session or credit the affected class.

Do you run holiday classes?

We occasionally run summer and half-term classes for both members and non-members. These sessions are advertised separately when available.

Is British Gymnastics membership required?

Yes. Everyone taking part must hold the appropriate British Gymnastics membership. This is separate from enrolment on Class Manager and from Heights class fees.

Safety and clothing

What should gymnasts wear?

Gymnasts should wear a suitable leotard and club training clothing. New gymnasts are welcome to wear suitable PE kit for their first few lessons while they settle into classes.

Hair should be tied back, jewellery removed and clothing must not include jeans or sharp edges. Socks or trampoline shoes must be worn on the trampolines.

For more information about suitable clothing and why we recommend leotards, please see our Club Clothing page.

Can parents and carers watch?

Parents and carers may watch from the public walkways in the leisure centre. They must not enter the sports hall courts unless this has been agreed with a coach.

Can gymnasts leave the sports hall independently?

Gymnasts aged eight or over may leave the sports hall without coach supervision only when a parent or carer has given permission. This consent can be updated in Class Manager. Gymnasts under eight will be chaperoned by a coach until they are collected by their parent or carer.

Can you support medical needs, disabilities or additional needs?

Please tell us about any health concerns, disabilities, special educational needs or other support needs before taking part. This helps the coaching team plan for safe and appropriate participation.

What are the rules about photography and video?

Parents and carers are not permitted to take photographs or videos during club sessions. Only authorised Heights Club staff may do so, and only in accordance with the photography and video permission recorded for each gymnast in Class Manager. Please speak to a coach or welfare officer if you have any questions.

Can gymnasts wear clothing from another club?

No. Clothing that represents another gymnastics club must not be worn during Heights sessions.

Progression and opportunities

Do you enter competitions?

Yes. Heights gymnasts take part in regional, English and national trampoline competitions where appropriate. We also occasionally run in-house club competitions in both trampoline and gymnastics. Coaches will discuss suitable competition opportunities and next steps with gymnasts and their parents or carers.

How are skills and awards assessed?

Coaches assess progress during classes. Heights uses British Gymnastics award pathways, with badges and certificates available to buy when an award has been completed.

Venue and practical information

Where are classes held?

Our classes take place in the sports hall at:

White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre
Audlett Drive
Abingdon
Oxfordshire
OX14 3PJ

The leisure centre has entry barriers at reception. Simply let the reception team know you are attending Heights Club, or wear your club clothing, and they will let you through without charge.

The sports hall is located towards the rear of the leisure centre, past the café and down the stairs.

Is parking available?

Yes. There is ample freepParking at the leisure centre.

Are changing rooms and toilets available?

Separate male and female changing rooms and toilets are located directly across the walkway from the sports hall. These facilities are shared with other leisure centre users and include communal changing areas and showers.

What if a gymnast needs the toilet during a class?

Gymnasts are welcome to use the toilet whenever they need to. We encourage everyone to use the facilities before their class starts to help minimise interruptions to training.

Our coaches must remain in the sports hall to supervise the class, so they are unable to accompany gymnasts to the toilet. If a gymnast needs assistance, we ask that a parent or guardian is available to help.

Can we walk or cycle to the venue?

Yes. We encourage active travel where practical, and bike racks are available at White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre.

Where can I leave my belongings?

Gymnasts may leave their belongings at the edge of the sports hall during classes, but this is at their own risk. Heights cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage to personal belongings.

Alternatively, lockers are available across the walkway from the sports hall. These require a refundable £1 coin and are available for gymnasts to use.

Who should I contact with another question?

Email contact@heightsclub.co.uk and the club team will be happy to help.
